Hackensack HS Class Photo 1918

Seller's description:

Here is a very neat photo shows a view of the High School Class in 1918 from Hackensack, NJ. The mat frame measures approx. 14 by 12 inches, the photo is 7 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches, shows some wear and tear from the years, freshly removed from album after long storage. These were found in an estate sale box with lots of other neat old photos.

Like the girls 1916 basketball photo, this photo was taken by - or the property of - someone who lived at 50 Anderson St, but I can't make out the name.

BLeafe....When I first looked at the script on the back of photo, I jotted down 4 different names...

1st..Loxier Bogert Frame....1916   1917
2nd..Loxier Bogert Photo.... "          "
3rd..Lozier Bogert Frame.... "          "
4th..Lozier Bogert Photo..... "          "

Then I went to page 11 on the atlas map...and there are 3 Bogert properties on Anderson st...2 of them being on block # 72 over by railroad ave...

and 1 being on the corner of Main and Anderson block #76.....

Then there is also a Bogert on Main and Bogert, Block #81...and 2 doors up on Main is a Steven Lozier Block# 88

Maybe just maybe it was a jointly owned Photo Shop owned by the 2 neighbors.... ?

Its fun trying to figure it out....I wish there were more maps....

To be honest, I have no indication that the name on that image had anything to do with creating the picture. I would lean towards it being the name of the owner of the photo - maybe a student.

Even back then, a photographer would have a more professional-looking stamp or something, but would not write his/her name and address in that manner.

You did bring to my attention the fact that I put the wrong backside image with this auction. It's the one for the 1916 HHS girls basketball team. The correct image is now there and has a lot more signatures there to go through.

It's even got "1966" and "1968" written on the top for some reason. Figure THAT one out!

Your Right .....Now that I can see the back of the right picture  I can clearly see Marjorie Bogert Browne....who must be the owner of the photo...

As to your question....figure out why it says 1966 & 1968 and there are more signatures .....

It would be pure speculation on my part... but here goes.....

There are 60 people in the photo in 1918....

and I would guess that maybe in 1966 the 27 signatures on the back were 27 that showed up for a 48 year reunion....

or were 27 confirmed or thought to still be alive...

or names recorded by Ms. Margorie in 1966 of alumnus that might attend a 50 year reunion in 1968....

1968 would have been a 50 year reunion and I can see 2 years preperation going into a reunion of that many years.....

What's amazing is that there are only about 60 students in the graduating class of 1918.  And only a portion of that 60 were from Hackensack.

Can anyone list all the towns that sent to Hackensack in 1918.  I know it included portions of northern Bergen County, including Paramus, Riverside (River Edge), Oradell, and maybe even further north.  But of course most of that was farm country.

I remember looking through an old HHS yearbook once and all the students' pictures listed their hometowns.

If you have access to a similar yearbook, that might be an easy way to compile a list of sender towns.

After breaking out my very large magnifying glass and looking closely at the people in the photo, you can even whittle the student count down by about 15....

If you look, there are a look of older people, I guess Teachers, maybe even a Custodian, even the school Nurse............But the Student count looks to be about 45 in my estimation.....
