Hackensack Main Street Festival 2010
« on: October 02, 2010, 06:52:55 PM »
The main reason I went to this year's street festival was one of nostalgia. The guitarist for Fillet of Soul was an old friend named Joe Murray, whom I hadn't seen in over 30 years.

Joe played in Pegasus back then and that was the local band that I basically sharpened my concert-shooting skills on. While I was talking to him after the show, another Pegasus member showed up (Ted the bass player!), so it was a nice little reunion.

You can see Joe and his red guitar in the next-to last picture. The last picture is a now-and-then, showing Joe after the show and when I shot him in Pegasus in April of 1977 (not sure of the venue).

Thanks, BLeafe.  Neat pix... you are a gifted photog.

Didn't Joe Pizza and Steve Moon play in Fillet of Soul as well?  I may be confused, but wasn't Steve the lead singer and Joe the bassist?  I also remember seeing the band at Arcola Pool back in the day.  Good music.

Thanks again.

I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here.

Thanks for the kind words.

I really couldn't tell you who was in FoS back then because I didn't follow them.

I stuck mainly with Pegasus because the lead singer was my roommate. Other than that, I wasn't overly-involved with the local scene. There were bigger fish to fry.

Well deserved...

I suppose I should have framed the time/space continuum a little bit better- I was talking about the mid-sixties when I would see the FOS band at Arcola.   Of interest to other readers here who may have not made the connection, the Joe Pizza I speak of is the same ex-Summit Ave-dwelling, supporter of Mayor Zisa and fan of Borg woods.  That's a mouthful!  I was friends with Joe's younger brother Frank in Boyscout Troop 15 (that met at the First Congregational Church in those days).

If your sister is Geri, I knew her, too!

Steve Moon sang for The Filet of Soul. Joey Pizza and Ronnie Maninno had their own group one of the names being "Muffin".

There was a Frank Pizza who pitched for the Hackensack Red Wings in the 40s (see pic below). Could he be your friend's father?

Joe Pizza's father is Joe Pizza, Sr.  Sr. lived on Clinton Place just west of Clarendon in a small ranch house.  Unsure if Frank Pizza is related.

Yes one and the same.   The Frank Pizza I knew would have been born circa 1953... Joe is a bit older.

Yes class of 1967.  My brother was 3 years behind me.  Check out my wooden ruler-skinned knuckles.

Bingo!  I stand/sit corrected.  Thanks for helping my crooked memory.
