"Fishing Priest" PC w/1909 Hackensack PM
« on: October 12, 2010, 01:25:05 AM »

I'm not sure that these are priests (friars? brothers?) and the postmark is the only real Hackensack connection here, but I think any Holy Trinity School alum would smile at the thought some of the old priests schlepping their nets down to the Hackensack River for no-meat-on-Fridays dinner (maybe that's why "Thursday" is crossed out).

Hmmm, looks like a couple of old-time Irish friars scooping fish from the Hackensack River.  I can believe that.

Sure, there are no identifyiable landmarks, but there's lots of low flat areas along the river.  That could easily be Foschini Park, Johnson Park, or the area that is now FDU.  Aren't those long-leaf plants some Yellow Iris's, and do I see some black willow in the background.

I can easily believe that's our riverbank.
