Walter Marty Schirra, Jr. (1923 – 2007) An original Mercury 7 astronaut chosen for NASA's Project Mercury, America's first effort to put human beings in space. He was the only person to fly in all of America's first three space programs (Mercury, Gemini and Apollo). He logged a total of 295 hours and 15 minutes in space! Schirra was the fifth American and the ninth human to ride a rocket into space. He was the first person to go into space three times.

Here's a check document signed by Schirra off his "Schirra Enterprises" account at the First National Bank of Englewood, Colorado, dated June 1983. Schirra makes the check payable to "Josephine F. Shirra," his wife, who also endorses on the verso. Schirra Lists his name and address as, "Captain W. M. Schirra, U.S.N. (Ret.), 60 West Ranch Trail, Morrison, Colorado 80465" Josephine F. Schirra broke the traditional bottle of champagne across the bow of THE USNS Wally Schirra, named by the US Navy in his honor!
