Last night's photos: Local fireworks and NYC lights
« on: May 15, 2011, 04:15:29 PM »
1. Anyone hear fireworks to the south last night? I could just about see them from my LR and took some shots.

It turns out that they were 3-4 miles away in Moonachie at the celebration for the 100th anniversary of the Moonachie Fire Department.

2. I'm trying to get photos of the various colors of the Empire State Building from home. Last night, it was blue, white, and orange.

After I took the first shot, I noticed that the clouds were lowering, so I shot the below sequence.

While editing the images, I noticed that the spire of the building on the far left changed colors, which I never noticed before. I don't know what's going on at the spire's base. The clouds weren't that low. It looks like the spire just crash-landed and shot up dust and debris.

While I was arranging that 4-image sequence, I noticed that the spire of the building to its right also changed colors, though to a less frequent and less obvious degree (2-image sequence).

I don't know what buildings they are. The left one has a top like the Citicorp building, but that's further north. If you know, post it and ejumicate me.
