Ever hang out at the Dirt Club? Johnny Dirt is dead at 66

Not exactly Hackensack-related - it's not even Bergen County-related - but if you ever hung out at the fabulously ritzy (see picture) Dirt Club in Bloomfield, you probably knew its lovably-eccentric owner, Johnny Dirt.

I knew him from shooting lots of bands there and from when he came in to tape the Uncle Floyd Show in 1983. I took the second below photo of him and UFS cast member Charlie Stoddard (done up as Andy Kaufman) at that taping. Now Johnny and Andy are both in another kind of dirt club. You may also remember his "Dirtstock" festivals on the Passaic River in Newark in the mid-80s.

Oh yes, I do....spent many a friday or saturday (sometimes thursday) nights playing there in my first band in the early to mid 80's. I was a teenager at the time, and Mr Dirt was always there..drunk as a skunk!
I saw lots of great bands pass through there too...RIP Johnny!
