Description:

Shown is an original & historic old newspaper, offered to enhance your collectible interest: THE GLASGOW MERCURY, Scotland, May 4, 1780

* Rare revolutionary War era title
* Loads of war reporting

Inside has news reports: "From the New York Papers" with some details of a skirmish in Hackensack (see). Another item includes: "We are in sight of the rebel fleet which is at anchor off Sullivan's Island...." with more (see). Also: "A Proclamation" signed in type by: H. Clinton, which begins: "Although the wicked & daring rebellion which hath been raised in several of his Majesty's colonies & provinces in North America still continues to subsists...thought fit to issue this my Proclamation to notify...all such persons as have been seduced by the arts of faction or hurried away by the tumult & disorder of the times from their natural loyalty & their just obedience to the laws...a free & general pardon for all treasons & treasonable offences..." with more (see).

Half a page is taken up with reports on Henry Clinton and his efforts in the Carolinas, including a letter: "...from a gentleman in South Carolina dated at a Rebel house, six miles from Charles-Town..." with much good information, including one bit: "...The rebel force at Charles-Town [Charleston], including Lincoln's army, are numbered, by deserters from thence, from 3 to 4,000 bearing arms..." and more (see). Plus there is over a full page of additional war-related reports from the South and from New York, too much to mention here (see for portions).

A great issue with much great content. Eight pages, 9 by 12 inches, very nice condition.

Seller has provided a LOT of newsprint images. I put up 4, so you'll have to go to the auction to read the rest.
