Description:

Pair of map books for Hackensack, NJ.  They measure 21.5" x 13.5".  The bindings are getting rough but the books are not falling apart.

These books look like plat books but they are identified as insurance books. Produced by the Sanborn Map Company one book is dated 1908 and the other is dated 1915.

As I said, they look like plat books but they not only show the streets, lots and public spaces but they identify many buildings by the use at that time and all major commercial locations are identified including details such as watchmen shifts, what part of the bigger buildings were used for what use and other details that may be used by an insurance company.

The books have many hand written notes and drawings added as the neighborhoods changed between printings.
