HACKENSACK — A man was treated for burns and smoke inhalation Monday after a two-alarm fire destroyed a house on Campbell Street, authorities said.

The 67-year-old man, whose name was not released, was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, said Lt. Stephen Lindner of the Hackensack Fire Department. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

No one else was injured in the incident, Lindner said.

The fire started around 4:45 p.m. and spread quickly through the two-and-a-half story house, Lindner said. Firefighters from at least four nearby towns responded to a call for mutual aid, and the fire was under control within about 30 minutes, Lindner said.

The fire was still under investigation late Monday, and authorities had not determined if it was accidental or whether it had been intentionally set, Lindner said.

Lindner could not immediately say how many residents had been displaced by the blaze. The structure was almost completely destroyed, he said.

“The house is a total loss,” he said. “It’s pretty much through the roof.”
