The Stealth, a restaurant and nightclub on Main Street, holds a fund-raiser tonight for the Hackensack School District's musical programs.
With jazz on the menu, MacVicar hopes to raise enough money to pay for five to six instruments - which cost as much as $1,500 each. But whether the event raises $600 or $6,000, she says, she'll be happy.
"It's a very helpful thing," she said. "We're just happy to take anything they can give us."
The event begins at 6 p.m. with a meet-and-greet with the featured band, the Diva Jazz Orchestra. The 14-piece, all-female band will then play jazz sets beginning at 7:30 p.m.The event, promoted by Bassline Entertainment, also will feature jazz great
Bob Cranshaw and Broadway performer Maurice Hines as hosts, said Dinu Dan, owner of The Stealth. Mayor John "Jack" Zisa will recognize Christina Chewchuk, a Hackensack High School junior, for her musical achievements, Dan said. She's due to perform in the 2005 Tournament of Roses Parade.
