I usually wind up shooting the Falls in Spring when the flow is tremendous, but that has its downside. The flow is so great that you can't see discernible features and the copious mist it creates means you have to spend a lot of time covering up your camera.

Two days ago, the Falls officially became the US's newest national park. The Secretary of the Interior was there, along with various senators and other dignitaries. Watching the coverage on the news, I could see that Fall colors were still evident in the area, so I decided to go shoot a colorful national park today.

Some of the pictures were taken slightly upriver where the bridge entrance is to take advantage of both smooth and swirling waters and the foliage reflecting in them. All images have Fall foliage colors somewhere in them, except the last one, which has nothing to do with the Falls, but is colorful anyway.

The swirling shots are my favorites, especially the next to last image - the shot of the day, as far as I'm concerned -  which is almost a block before the Falls. You can see houses and trees reflected in the flow. That blue ball was there when I arrived and was in the same spot when I left over an hour later. It just could not escape. It's probably still there.

On my way back to the parking lot, I was taking some shots from McBride Ave, which fronts the Falls area. Someone walked by behind me and I could smell a strong, sweet cigar of some sort.............and no, it wasn't a blunt.

It turned out to be the woman in the last picture, who had what looked like a Tiparillo. It reminded me of those 60s commercials ("Should a gentleman offer a Tiparillo to a..."), but I don't think this woman was in any of them.

The hair and backpack added to the image, so I tried to get off a quick shot while I was walking, but cut off a bit of her head. The doctor says she'll live.

It just seemed like an interesting way to end a colorful shoot in Paterson.
