I can't ask for someone to sign a petition on public property? That would mean I couldn't stand on the sidewalk outside City Hall and ask for someone to sign my petition. I'm sure that can't be right.

That is a real loss. He was one of a dying breed.

I agree about Margulies, he's great.

About signing petitions on "public" property, I mean owned by the public, the city. No campaign/political activities at City Hall, at schools, in parks, etc. I was not aware of it until recently myself

Jimmy was doing caricatures of children at a County fair at Overpeck Park last summer in booth for The Record.  He did one of our daughter and captured her smile just right. He seemed like a focused, caring sort of person.  I wish him all the best.

Part of my daily routine every morning was to log on to The Record's website, and look at the political cartoon of the day.  I often disagreed with his slant on things, but I always enjoyed them.

I have enjoyed your attacks this week on sloppy work, embarrassing errors, and the fact that something as simple as basic proofreading is non-existent:

1. This is the latest in a series of embarrassing errors on the front page or in Page 1 stories under the inept supervision of Production Editor Liz Houlton.

2. More sloppy work by Production Editor Liz Houlton's wrong-way copy desk...

3. Is it too much to ask six-figure Production Editor Liz Houlton to read every headline and caption that appears on the paper's premier page or at least to have them read to her?

With her proofers' eyes riveted on the TV screen during the David Letterman show, how else is she going to prevent such embarrassing errors from appearing on Page 1?

Yes. I was rushing. But I work alone. At The Record, several sets of eyes see every headline, caption and so forth, and still can't get it right.

At The Record, Black History Month is history for another year.

Ok, but why are you using this site to extend your Record rants? You have your own blog for that.

Were you planning on posting daily updates about what the paper is not reporting?

I'm trying to widen my blog readership as I seek a seat on the City Council. The blog highlights how poorly The Record has treated Hackensack, and the impact its departure had on Main Street. I also highlight quality of life issues such as aircraft noise and the lack of street paving. If you regard those posts as "rants," so be it.

Avoiding the folly of home rule
http://eyeontherecord.blogspot.com/2013/03/editors-bury-tough-words-about-home-rule.html

You quoted the editorial:

"Oftentime, the only people who truly embrace home rule are the officials doing the ruling," the editorial says.

The editorial doesn't say, "Oftentime", which isn't a word. It says "Oftentimes".

I know..............you were in a rush.

Hey - remember this from the above post about embarrassing errors?

It contains an error. Can you find it?

No rush.

BLeafe: Maybe you can get a job at a newspaper as a proofreader. You sound like you have too much time on your hands. Keep in mind nobody BLieves anything you say.
