Anderson St Station/Jay's Seafood?
« on: April 16, 2013, 09:24:14 AM »
This request just popped up on the Bergen County Historical Society board:

Hi, I am looking for an image of the Anderson Ave train station in Hackensack NJ when it was Jay's Seafood store.  My wife is the daughter of the late owner and all of her family's images of the store are lost.  I was hoping to provide her one.

Was there ever a "Jay's Seafood" in that vicinity?

The name sounds familiar but I never heard of a seafood market in the station. The Health Department would have licensed it and perhaps Mr. Editor can contact someone there to see if they have a record of a license.

I emailed the person who made the request and asked for a guesstimate of a time frame for Jay's and the reply was mid to late 1960s.

Checked with Health.  No record but they don't go back that far. I'll post any new information I find.

Hi, this is James the person looking for the picture; I have some more information.  The train station was the River Edge not Anderson Avenue, sorry.  The address was 114 Grand Avenue and now the location is the New Bridge Road Station. The Seafood Store operated there from the 60 into the 70s.  It closed in the mid 70s and the station burned down in the late 70s.  Hope this helps.  Thanks all!
