Earth Day on the River at FDU
« on: April 19, 2013, 04:25:25 PM »
I happened to be on the Hackensack River Walkway on April 17 and saw canoes in the water. They appeared to launch from the Teaneck side of FDU (first picture).

A little further downriver, I saw that they were Hackensack Riverkeeper canoes and that the students were picking garbage from the water (second picture). Note that while one picks something out of the water, the other isn't holding an oar - it's a net.

I checked online and found out that this was FDU's 5th annual Earth Day river cleanup.

The other pictures are some of what else I shot on the Walkway that day. The last two pictures show that some angles are better than others. And if you look closely at the next-to-last one, you can see part of the new building at 29 Linden - something I didn't think was visible from the Walkway.

From FDU's site:

April 16, 2014 Earth Day Celebration
Hackensack RiverKeeper at Metro Campus!

On Wednesday, April 17th, 2013 we celebrated Earth Day on the Metropolitan Campus!  This celebration was held from 11:30 AM – 3 PM, on the Green in front of the new Garden between Becton Hall and the dorms.  We made a campus-wide effort to think about environmental issues and enjoy the green space around campus.  Activities included a river clean-up, outdoor games, and information about environmental friendly organizations and products will be provided.  Additionally, we sold flowers and herbs grown in our own campus greenhouse. Environmental BINGO was a big hit thanks to the board donation from our Academic Advising Center.

Maybe the Editor will show up in his kayak to assist the students.  ;)
