Celebration of Ghana   Always alert to the culture of foreign countries, Pastor Steven McClelland held a special luncheon celebrating the culture of Ghana at First Presbyterian Church of Hackensack, NJ. Barbara Calderio Del Rosso was the creator and "MC" of the Celebration of Ghana luncheon and fashion show. It included a fashion show as well as the food and a history of Ghana.

The luncheon featured all the foods of Ghana prepared by the Ghana women of the First Pres. Church. One featured dish that was enjoyed by all was rice balls which were placed in peanut soup. Following a delicious lunch was the fashion show featuring the beautiful, authentic women, men and children's clothes of the Ghana people.

The Gold Coast achieved independence from the United Kingdom’s colonial rule in 1957 becoming the first Sub-Saharan African nation to do so.

The flag of Ghana, consisting of the colors red, gold, green, and the black star, became the new flag in 1957. the red represents the blood that was shed towards independence, the gold represents the mineral wealth of Ghana, the green symbolises the rich agriculture, and the black star is the symbol of African emancipation.
