Every year since five Hackensack (NJ) officers and firefighters were killed battling an auto dealership fire on July 1, 1988, city and area firefighters, families, and friends have gathered at the firefighter's memorial in Fairmount Park to remember their fallen comrades. Five monuments represent the fallen members. The memorial service also recognizes all deceased members of the Hackensack Fire Department.
The ceremony was yesterday, 7/1.

I remember that day very well. I was working at Guy-Ross Chevrolet, and we heard about it as soon as it happened. Fire trucks everywhere, River St was practically shut down. The original report was that the fire started in the parts department attic, and as a result we had to relocate all our upstairs inventory to a lower floor.
