Members of the Hackensack Fire Department with Patrice Foresman of Community Blood Services during the Bone Marrow Registry Drive on Nov. 21. The Department held the drive from Nov. 18 to Nov. 21 for Owen Hogan, the son of a New York City firefighter. Hogan is a 2-year-old battling aplastic anemia — a rare bone marrow disease.

Firefighter Michael Golabek swabs the inside of his cheek — the procedure one must undergo in order to provide a biological sample and form part of the Bone Marrow Registry, according to Lt. Justin Derevyanik.

HACKENSACK — With the end goal of finding a match for a young toddler in Long Island, the Hackensack Fire Department held a bone marrow drive — one such locality assisting in the life-saving search.
