BEHOLD the Anderson Street Bridge that crosses the Hackensack River on this Memorial Day weekend. The bridge has basically been on life support for most of the last two years.

This revelation might not strike many as surprising or important. The Anderson Street span will never be confused with the mighty George Washington Bridge that lurches across the Hudson. And unless you live in central Bergen County, your life is probably not affected by the ups and downs of just one bridge that is only 100 yards long.

But the Anderson Street Bridge is a concrete example of how the state’s finances have been mismanaged.
