Kelly: Hackensack strategist is key to Bergen Democrats' hopes

Bergen’s Democratic Party threw a shindig for itself one evening this month. But the gathering was hardly a low-key affair befitting a political organization that has been struggling mightily in recent years to change its image and boost its campaign treasury.

Lynne Hurwitz More than 300 party loyalists filed into Hackensack’s posh Stony Hill Inn to hear Wesley Clark, the retired four-star general and former NATO supreme commander, praise the talents of James Tedesco in his bid to unseat Republican Kathleen Donovan as Bergen County executive. But in a far more subtle way — perhaps unnoticed by many in the room — the event was also a return of sorts for a short, blond-haired woman who may turn out to be a significant factor in the election.
