What is this?

I saw it from a distance in Johnson Park last week, took a shot, but never inspected it closely.

Now I'm curious.

It is part of a laser surveying setup.

I've seen two-man teams using something that looks like this apparatus on the street, but there was no one around.........this thing was just standing there unattended.

I have no idea what this could be.

These four photos were taken yesterday over a 25-minute period. I couldn't tell from my vantage point whether the red thing was on a roof or on the ground between two buildings. One minute, it held two very long.........pipes? The next minute, there was only one. A few minutes later there were none and a bit later there was one again.

Today, I saw three and then there was nothing - red thing gone, job done.

What kind of work could this be related to?

Somewhere there's a message board of electronic surveyor equipment with cameras installed in them, viewing a pic of Bob Leafe and his camera at a distance wondering the same thing hahaha :P

You know,  I noticed that the skinny legs in this thread's initial picture were similar to the pipes(?), but couldn't work out a connection.

Are you saying that somewhere in the shadows of those buildings, Big Brother (or Big Surveyor) nailed me?
