Wreath-laying and ceremony at Spanish-American War Memorial, Hackensack Cemetery on Sunday, November 9, 2014, 12 noon.

A wreath-laying and ceremony at Spanish-American War Memorial, Maple Grove Cemetery, New York Cemetery, 535 Hudson Street, Hackensack, NJ.

Several hundred people attended the dedication in the New York (Maple Grove) Cemetery in Hackensack on May 31, 1909, of the first monument erected by any Spanish-American War veterans’ camp in the United States. Little Belle Burroughs, a daughter of Lieutenant A. B. Burroughs, unveiled the monument, which was topped by a small cannon captured in the Philippines, the ceremony being witnessed by members of the Major John Engel Camp, S. W. V. of Hackensack
