Eric Leefe's Last Call To Rock and Roll
« on: May 03, 2015, 11:20:49 AM »
No, we're not related, but he is a friend with not a lot of time left on this planet.

You may have read an article by Jim Beckerman in The Record (http://www.northjersey.com/arts-and-entertainment/music/disability-didn-t-stop-rocker-eric-leefe-1.1050784) last summer about this wheelchair-bound, 50-ish man with Cerebral Palsy who was in bands in the 80s, but is now living in a Hawthorne nursing home.

It's a nice place, but since all the other residents are in their 80s and 90s, he's kind of alone on an island there.

Eric's father, Bob Leefe (!), was a well-known Rock and Roll Hall of Fame engineer who recorded Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock" and dozens of other famous artists, including Tommy James and the Shondells. Tommy and Eric are close friends and it was Tommy who rescued Eric from an abysmal situation on Long Island and found him his current digs. The full story is in the above link.

Deterioration of Eric's health is constant and he knows he has a year - maybe two - left.

His big bucket list item is to do one final gig. I didn't think it was possible, but it's actually happening tomorrow night in Wyckoff. Beckerman wrote another article in today's Sunday Record to promote the gig:

http://www.northjersey.com/arts-and-entertainment/music/one-last-jam-for-a-life-surrounded-by-music-1.1324514?page=all

It IS free admission, but the idea is for donations - it doesn't matter how much - to help with Eric's mountain of medical bills.

I know a lot of people read that article last summer, felt bad, and wanted to know how to help. This is the way.

It won't be a long night.......there are only 8 or 9 songs on the set list (I hope he's got the wind to get through them all), so come on out and help give Eric a magnificent musical sendoff and a great memory for all of his remaining days.

Thanks.

It was a great night, the placed was packed, the band kicked ass, and over $1,000 was collected.
