« on: November 02, 2015, 01:20:45 AM »
Does anyone know if Hackensack is having a cleanup day this Fall ?  For the volunteers to clean up parks, riverfront, etc.

We have other commitments next Saturday so Marley and I took a ride over the Borg's Woods today and picked up some trash.  Don't worry.  There's plenty left. Some observations:

- Lots of wrappers for flavored cigars, presumably for blunts. (Hey you smoking mother nature: pick up after yourself or buy a vaporizer).
- Lots of empty cans of sugary soft drinks in the same general vicinities as the cigar wrappers.
- Lots of empty water bottles.

Any reason we can't put one trash receptacle at the entrance?

- The leaves make garbage a little harder to spot so keep your eyes peeled.
- Someone built a shelter.  Looks like a Boy Scout project.  No sign of anyone living in there but who knows.
- The park sign came down.

We'll also hit Baldwin Park on the way to/from school over the next several days.

Have fun next weekend.

There was a trash receptacle, and neighbors demanded it be removed.  They thought that people would use it for their household garbage, and otherwise just didn't want to look at it.  I agree there should be one one at Allen Street, and even more important for one at Byrne Street. It seems that lots of pedestrian visitors to Borg's Woods first visit the 7/11 at Passaic Street and The Esplanade. And by the time they reach Borg's Woods via Byrne Street, they are finished with their drink, and they just throw the container or bottle in the woods.  Ignorant.
