Forget about listing and leaning; Old Homer has come up with a solution to the Ling.
If a Hackensack property owner stores a wrecked/ non functioning vehicle on his or her property, the property owner would be in violation of the City’s Property Maintenance Code and if the violation were not corrected in a given amount of time, the property owner would be brought into court. (You can see where this is going).
In the case of the Ling, the property owner should be responsible for the removal of this non functioning derelict submarine since the property owner was responsible for bringing the submarine onto their property.
All the City has to do is have a property maintenance inspector issue a notice of violation and if the submarine is not removed in a reasonable period of time, the matter be brought to court for adjudication.
This could be the start of a new direction for maritime law.

That doesn't make sense. I'll stick with leaning, as anyone can see from the photos I took 2 years apart; same lean as before:

But I love your idea of filing a property maintenance citation against the Borgs, though I don't think the city will do that on its own; are you ready to go to the Building Department and file a complaint????

well, you would be wrong.    The correct nautical term is listing...   and it is not stuck in the mud either, at least not as it was before.   you see, on the night of October 29, 2012, the Ling actually popped out of the mudhole it was in for the previous 39 years when the river crested....   when the river went back down the boat did not settle back in the depression it had been in, so it took on a 4 degree list to port.     that is where it sits today...

I happened to visit the Ling yesterday and was wondering when they had removed all the artifacts - missed it by a day.

1. Where the plaques were

2. It's not easy to make a photostitch of the whole vessel from the park side, but I got most of it.

3. In this stitch, you can see the fresh truck tire tracks in the muddy grass and on the left pathway.

You'll have to scroll the stitches a bit.

There is some talk in Hackensack that the plaques weren't stolen at all, but removed for safekeeping.... The suggestion is the veterans "forgot" this, and told police they were stolen after the vandalism was discovered.

The story from The Wretched (err The Record) reports the plaques "were pried from the ground."

That was pretty much the rumor after the plaques went missing.

There's been a slight change to that story.
