State Street's Don Alfonso Restaurant closed?
« on: March 23, 2016, 07:27:57 PM »
I'm not sure, but it appears that the Don Alfonso Peruvian Restaurant at 402 State St has closed.

I saw some tables on the sidewalk last week and I thought that al fresco dining had come to State Street, but then I saw them being carted away and there's been zero activity since.

I hope I'm wrong (Alfonso still owes me a dinner).   ;)

Sounds from here that some River Street polo is in order.

Actually what Hackensack really needs is a Cluck- U Chicken franchise in town. Unfortunately the closest ones are in Jersey City and Hoboken.
That would be a real money maker. Put one by the Medical Center and another one on River Street.

Chicken Delight or Chicken Unlimited in Hasbrouck Heights were my go-to places as a kid. That, of course after Gino's (which sold KFC) closed

No chicken tastes better than Chick fil A.  As a child, my family would go about once a month to Paramus Park, just for Chick fil A, and then maybe do some other shopping.

Was there ever a Chicken and Rib Crib in Hackensack? The closest one I remember was in Garfield

There was a Chicken Magician on Anderson Street a few years back.

..............and then:

http://www.hackensacknow.org/index.php/topic,1406

After that, it occupied space at My China Cafe on Linden St and now has hit the big time on Main St.

Getting back to the thread's topic: does anyone remember what very different type of business venture came semi-close to taking over that space before the Don Alfonso Restaurant moved in?

The space had been vacant for quite a while before Alfonso moved in. Since It's directly visible from my LR, I could see what was(n't) going on.

One day, I saw some activity and a few people inside the building. Curious, I went over there the next day and met some people who were interested in taking over the space.

"For what?", I asked.

"A strip club."

When they found out that I was a photographer, lived right across the parking lot from them and had done some photography for the old Play For Pleasure store on Main St, I almost had an interesting new job. I was still shooting concerts at the time, so I was used to late hours and it was within easy walking distance.

Oh well...............maybe they'll come back.
