CBH was the main tenant at 395 Main/400 State - the yellow brick building on the corners of Main, Ward and State.

Every weekday, they helped vanloads of disadvantaged people who came in the morning and left at 3pm.

Last week, I started noticing some of the workers carrying a box of papers or files to their cars. By Friday afternoon, moving guys were carrying chairs and file cabinets out of the building and rolling them to a truck (first picture).

There were very few cars in the parking lot this morning, so that kind of cinches it.

Why am I concerned about this? Totally selfish reasons. It means that work will probably start soon to bring down that building, the Don Alfonso Restaurant and ultimately, the Hanson real estate office, which appears to still be functioning. When that all happens, a 5-story monstrosity will go up that will totally block my view of the river and a LOT of other things.

The second image shows the before and after. In the bottom "after" section, EVERYTHING in that white rectangle - including the empty white panels - will be the new building. It measures the full 5 floors. I'll be lucky to see the horizon

I'm not happy, but I do understand progress.

Bob, you are showing the new building as taller than the old apartment building at Passaic and State Streets.  As you sure about that ?  I guess if it's 5 stories on top of two stories of parking, maybe you are correct.  I haven't seen the plan.

CBH is two stories. Double that and add a floor. I might get a little bit more trees, but the river is gone.

And you certainly can't move up one or more floors in your building.
