Ever give any thought to renaming this development  the “389 Main Street project “ rather than the “389 Main Street rehab project” since the word “rehab “ certainly does not apply to this new construction project .
Just a thought  in terms of accuracy.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because all of these projects are in the rehabilitation zone declared by the city in 2011 (see http://www.hackensacknow.org/index.php/topic,2008.0.html).

Perhaps the Editor can flesh that out.

12-11-18 (1-9)

This was fun, sitting in my living room and taking pictures of huge steel beams flying over the 389 Main St project - sometimes 3 at a time - courtesy of the massive 110-ton crane and then seeing the workers become beam-walkers. The fifth shot looks like a DWI test.

12-12-18 (10-20)

But what I really wanted to shoot was the flying beams from on-site and on the sun side, so I did that on this day right after shooting brick walls being knocked down just up the street at the Holman's/435 Main Site. It was like when I used to shoot heavy metal shows 30 years ago - lots of  noise, lots of "danger".

Every once in a while, I like to try to see if I still have my concert timing. I noticed (next-to-last shot) that the worker was catching something small thrown from below multiple times. In the last shot, I zoomed in and you can see exactly what it was.

Timing intact!

It's been pretty slow lately, what with the holidays, the weather and who knows what else, so the scene hasn't changed a whole lot. I had expected to lose my river view by now, so I'm thankful for the extra time and river photo ops.

12-14-18 (2) Dumping gravel and sparking the beams

12-19-18 (2) Except for the Cats, these scenes haven't changed in almost a month.

12-23-18 (6) Last burst of activity in 2018 (I hope the building stands up better than its sign did.)

1-2-19 (first 4 pix) Starting the year right by closing Main St to dig up the road and install sewer pipe connectors. (5) Driving backwards around Main/Ward/State with a load of concrete Main St road pieces. (6) Dumping some gravel near the road pieces.

1-3-19 Uber for Cats

1-5-19 Raindrops on the wires

1-9-19 Blazing sunset hits the girders and the Noches de Colombia restaurant’s lights sit in the background shadows.

These images run from January 15 to February 1. Dates are under each picture.

These images run from February 2 to February 5 (busy days). Dates are under each picture.

This week seems to be dedicated to installing most of the corrugated metal floor decking, which had been started earlier on the Main St side of the first floor. After that, concrete will be poured into the decking to make the floors. The next post will have more decking installation images.

There are two photo stitches at the end from 2-3-19. One of them matches up well with one I took near the beginning of this thread before any buildings came down.

It's been over a month, so I have to split this into two posts.

2-6-19 (3)

These are all from February 6 - busy day. I put 3 photo stitches done that day together in the first image to illustrate how much of the corrugated metal floor decking was completed on that day. The next two images - also taken the same day - show how much work went into each section (and gave me a chance to capture the spark show).

2-8-19 (2)

Gotta include Homer's bucket, right?

2-9-19 (1)

The full site shot and the soon-to-disappear river

2-10-19 (2)

2-13-19 (1)

This shows what appears to be a custom snow shovel made to clear snow from the metal decking.

2-16-19 (2)

2-17-19 (2)

Includes a stitch from the Sunday walkaround (click to enlarge and then scroll to the right to see the whole thing. To shrink it back, use your back button).

Part 2

2-20-19 (1)

I'm sure all these snowy days didn't help the schedule.

2-21-19 (1)

When the snow melted, the water had to be blown off the metal decking.

2-23-19 (1)

This is a stitch taken from across Main St. After clicking, scroll to the right to see the whole thing.

2-25-19 (2)

The second shot is a video still. A blob of sparks rained down from above, hit concrete and practically bounced into some poor guy's face.

2-26-19 (3)

A wood delivery, a concrete block delivery and those blocks being put to immediate use.

2-28-19 (1)

3-1-19 (1)

3-2-19 (1)

This is the first time I noticed night lighting on the site.

3-4-19 (2)

Oh, goodie..............more snow

3-9-19 (1)

It wasn't that dark out - I just had to stop down the lens because that one section was just too brightly-reflective. It's kind of interesting-looking this way.

3-11-19 (2) - In the parking garage (State St side) and trying to control a LOT of pages on the second floor on a windy day

3-13-19 (3) - Ward St side, first floor corrugated metal flooring in place, recently-installed sidewalk covering on Main St

3-15-19 (2) - New load of corrugated metal flooring for the third floor, putting that metal decking in place (Chicken Collision store in the background)

3-16-19 (2) - Sparkly river at low tide, the black market pastel snow shovel exchange

3-17-19 (5) - Third floor metal flooring almost done (second floor concrete soon), garage solitary confinement room (don't tell anyone), underside of third floor metal flooring, the metal corner of Main & Ward, yarn from after-work knitting class (REALLY don't tell anyone - the guys'll kill me!)

Re: Tracking the 389 Main St rehab project - the first floor floor-pour
« Reply #73 on: March 25, 2019, 04:45:39 PM »
Last Tuesday, March 19, 2019, they poured the concrete to create the first floor floor. I got a good tip to be there early AM.

The pictures are pretty much self-explanatory, except for the first 4 images.

The first one is a photo stitch taken from the roof behind the State Farm office, showing everything that was going on, including one of the many cement trucks needed for the entire floor, the big cement-pumper crane (center) and its hanging tube on the right over the newly-poured floor.

It turns out that this will probably be the last time for me on that roof because - as of today - they've already got the southern cement block wall up to the third floor, which also means no more shooting from the State Farm bathroom (thank you, Bob Testa - it was a big help).

I wasn't sure what was being made in the second and third shots, so I checked in with the site superintendent. His reply:

"It’s a footing for the extension of the existing wall inside basement area. A steel tube column will sit on top of that footing & be bolted down to carry a steel beam overhead. The beam overhead will connect to the piece of existing steel that’s there and the other end will be connected to the new steel tube column that will get installed."

Got that?

The fourth photo represents good photographic timing for me, but not for the poor guy who got pulled into the cement truck. I hope they put a plaque somewhere on the first floor to let people know who they're walking on and to do so respectfully.

(Just kidding, kids)

I also made a fun cement video that I'll post soon.
