Union and Passaic Streets closed today
« on: August 03, 2017, 09:33:06 PM »
Union St was closed from Anderson St to some point south of Passaic St. for almost the entire day today, as was Passaic St from (I'm guessing) Park St to State St.

The streets were reopened sometime between 6 and 7pm. It was a bumpy ride for cars driving over the road scar, so I don't know if it was a temporary fix or if the crews will be back tomorrow.

I wasn't sure what the problem was until I saw a Suez truck (water). If anyone knows any details, feel free to post them here.

BTW - check out the bottom right guy's steering mechanism in the first photo.

Thanks again, Mike.

So it turns out that the road patch on Union north of Passaic WAS temporary. They were back early yesterday, but faced an immediate rain delay.

Union St was closed from Passaic to Anderson. Ward St from State to Union was also closed (second pic). The third pic shows the view straight down on Union St in front of my building, where they're storing all their goodies. Union St and Conklin Place have underground utility markings on them and I think I saw a couple on Ward St, so it looks like the water pipe will reach Anderson and maybe go up the side streets.

Besides the pipes in front of my building, they're also in front of the Second Reformed Church and on Ward St close to Union.

Union St was bumpily re-patched and open by 3pm. This will probably be going on for a while and then yet another big repaving project will be needed.

Work has continued on and off between Passaic St and Anderson St.

These pix show yesterday's activity near Anderson St.

The water line installation continues onto Anderson St

As you saw in the previous post, the installation made a right turn from Union St onto Anderson as the westbound lane carried traffic in both directions.

Water pipe work right in front of my building

These photos were taken on September 30 (10) and October 4 (3).

1. I could look straight down and shoot for a change.

2. It looks like he's using a giant nail (it's got a tiny shovel on the end).

3. This was actually another hole across the street and a little south of me. It looks like an old Channel 9 logo.

4. Another piece of the road bites the dust.

5. Dunno where the water came from, but they drained it quickly.

6. This thing was pretty heavy and I took the shot just as it hit the sidewalk.

7. Here's what the finished product looked like seconds before it was filled in.

8. I don't know who uses the handicapped space, but they were outta luck today.

9. Filled in - done.

10. The handicapped space is back in business.

11. Another day, another hole in Union St.

12. A couple of today's casualties...

13. Coming attractions: the thoughtful workers appear to have left me a note on the street about the next-day activities.

Water pipe work on the side of my building (Ward & Union)

1. What a big chunk out of two streets looks like from above

2. I have no idea why the police car's hood has wood.

3. "Hello, AAA? My car's hood has wood."

4,5. Drain & flush

6. The Second Reformed Church now has double fire protection. BTW - there's only one new hydrant left in front of my building to adopt. Don't get shut out - get yours today!

1. So the lone hydrant still being offered for adoption in front of my building for weeks was reloaded back onto the truck for a trip back to the Home for Unwanted Hydrants (HUH).

2. Here's what it looked like from above.

3. Ancient pipes on the street

4. The pipes (and an old hydrant) are ready to be carted away.

5. The entrance to my building is starting to look a little less slummy. Maybe when they finish cleaning up, the street will get repaved.

Great pictures.  I am very happy to see that old pipe replacement is part of this project.
