You have to realize The Record's pages are being made up who knows where, in one of Gannet's design studios. The design studio that was preparing the pages, in Neptune, N.J., was closed last year, and the people were laid off. Now, Gannett employees far away, with limited knowledge of New Jersey, are writing headlines, photo captions and so forth. But if you look at the website, NorthJersey.com, that is also filled with numerous errors and typos, too.

This is from a North Jersey.com story on opening day of the trout season:

Opening day of trout season

Tadashi Hara or Paramus caught the daily limit of 6 trout in the first our and a half of the on a season opening day.  Marko Georgiev/NorthJersey.com

...content was replaced by articles from the Asbury Park Press, USA Today and other non-local sources...

As I mentioned above last month, I'm aware of the non-local nature of our supposedly local paper, but no matter where the contributors are from, grammar, spelling and sentence structure are constants (well, they were until this bunch came along). The READABILITY of the paper is affected every time your eyes hit one of these visual road bumps and the flow is interrupted. It's really annoying.

I don't know how an inanimate object can acquire human qualities, but this paper has managed to appear to be quite amateurly ignorant.

Just today, I plucked these two little gems from the same page in the sports section:
