"The Current on River"
« on: November 06, 2017, 02:07:20 PM »
You know you're old when your building has a noun in its name - in my case, the Park Lane.

I realize that "River" is a noun, but this place is referred to as "The Current" - similar to "The Modern" in Fort Lee. I predict this trend will end when they run put of positive adjectives and the final structure in this line of building will be named "The Adjective"..............and it will be roundly criticized because "adjective" is a noun. Looking ahead, you may want to invest in adverb futures.

When this project was first announced, I couldn't imagine where on River St it might be, never thinking of the lot on which the Oritani Field Club was located, because the OFC's address was on the side street: E. Camden St. I guess the thinking now is why face a college and a library when you can face a Toyota dealership?

Maybe after they're all settled in, the well-off tenants will decide they don't want car dealerships across the street and THAT will be the spark that eventually gets rid of the automotive side of River St, beautifying the area and making the river more accessible.

It could happen.

Meanwhile, from my apartment, I had seen and heard piledrivers in that vicinity and drove over there last week to see if something was going up on the OFC site. My "a-HA!" moment occurred when I saw the "Current on River" sign, so I walked around the block and took some pictures - something I may do from time to time to stay Current on River (groan!).

The images are shown pretty much in the order I took them, except for the last picture, which is a 2-photo stitch. The third from the last image brings to mind a certain 1995 "trial of the century".

I was thinking the same thing.  The front should be on East Camden Street for the reasons you stated and one more, which is that the city should want to encourage pedestrian traffic from the lobby entrance of this building to Main Street. Putting the entrance around the corner on River Street is not only gritty and unattractive from a tenant's standpoint, it's too far from the shops on Main Street.

the entrance to the building IS on East Camden St... as close as it can be to Main St....   a 6 second google search would have shown that...

Good to know, but if all the press releases say it's on River St, what would prompt someone to do a Google search to find out what street it's on?

The renderings are somewhat confusing if you look at the Hekemian website. Perhaps the editor/ administrator of this website can ask Mr. Hekemian to superimpose the street names onto the renderings to clarify what building elevations front which streets. Should be simple enough.

This image shows the East Camden Street entrance.

I think we've all seen this image and it's still not clear. Are you referring to the circled area under "THE CURRENT" sign as being the entrance? If not, please circle the actual entrance. If so, that corner location could only be in two places: the corner of E. Camden and Main - which isn't going to happen, but would place the entrance on E. Camden - or the corner of River and E. Camden, which would place the entrance on River St. If the latter, that street DOES look a bit wider than the side street and it would make sense that the sign for The Current on River be on the River St side.

It would help if the artist drew the streets to scale and/or - as Homer suggested - superimposed the street names on the rendering.

The entrance is mid-block on E. Camden.  Across the street is E. Camden and Moore (Library).  Yes, you circled the entrance.

What looks like a street on the north side of E. Camden is a driveway for the project and/or stores on Main St. I forget.

Does this help?

OK - I see it now. The rendering of that "driveway" and the Camden stores in the lower left - which look like they've also gone through rehab - throw things off.

I think the renderers need an upgrade. Remember that image of the 395 Main project that says "359"?

far right in the rendering photo shows the toyota dealer and you can see the grade going down the hill on east camden towards it.  the access driveway for the rear lot of the main st businesses is visible to the left of the entrance.
