It's not scheduled to begin until September, but whenever it does, if anyone gets any decent shots, posterity asks that you kindly post them here.

No explosives or huge wrecking balls will be used; 150 River Street and other buildings will be taken down with large mechanical claws, and pulverized to be used as fill to raise site 3 feet.

They haven't used them at any of the other 643 projects around town, so why would you expect them here?

None of the other 643 construction sites are so isolated that they COULD BE demolished with explosives or a wrecking ball.  It was a reasonable speculation, and I was wondering the same thing.

Well, for starters, The Record is located in a very un-isolated and active corner of the property, fronting very busy River St and having the Susquehanna railroad tracks right next to it.

It might not be the best place for explosives.

I don’t think anybody gives a damn how they demolish the buildings; but, the photo is the first time anybody can put the length of the Ling in full perspective.

Well, I gave a damn because I worked there so many years, and asked the company that's taking it down.  Thanks, Eric, for seeing my point. And while I'm at it, does it bother anyone that BLEAFE gets to put a link to his photo business on his posts? What's that crass commercialism all about?

The link has been there for 12 years and you're the first to complain - what does THAT tell you? And you've been here for more than EIGHT years and now you suddenly sense evil-doing at a music history site that I refer to when some well-known musician dies? Curious timing, don't you think? ESPECIALLY from someone who throws up dozens of personal site links to my one.........what's up with THAT? And, by the way, I've never sold a single site picture to anyone here nor have I tried to.

You think that the Editor would put up with "crass commercialism" for a dozen years?

If you have a policy gripe, take it up with him. In the meantime..............stop whining and grow up.

doesnt bother me a bit.  he contributes more than anyone else in this group, so who cares if he has a link or not.

1. This is a boring shoot.............at least at this stage. Access is limited to one flat side on which some first-floor work has been done - it's the same shot that everyone else has gotten so far.

2,3. The one saving grace for me is that the bays for the old Record delivery trucks have been exposed, reminding me of a shot my mother took of me a looooooong time ago in which you can see me, the bays and the trucks inside. It's actually kind of a cool story and worth a side trip (he says modestly):

https://iaintjustmusic.bobleafe.com/?p=272  (At the bottom of the page, check out the list of years/escapades/photos that goes up to present day.)

4. Does anyone recall that The Record's colors were blue and green? Was that for the Giants and Jets? I hadn't thought about that in a long time, but flashed on it when I saw this:

5. Desperate for something different that showed some work in progress, I could only come up with a Cat with a magnet picking up a piece of metal.............and that's at maximum magnification:

I'm sure I'll come back, but not too often.

1,2. The Record lost its name from the front a while ago, but not its address.

3,4. A little more destruction was evident on the south side.

5. Tagged by the wrecking crew?

6. Although I could hear a lot of destruction going on, I couldn't see any machinery or falling debris, but I could see evidence of it on the other side of this bay.

7. Behind the southeast corner was a large pile of discarded steel girders.

8. Meanwhile, on the flip side................

I took a bunch of shots, but this stitch is all-encompassing of the demolition progress as of two days ago.

I went over to the Record site yesterday to see which way the progress was moving since I shot there Sunday.

It's east to west.

They appear to be working their way on the main building toward River St. Maybe they'll get to the front sometime next week?

They should re-install the name on the front of the building..............it'll make a better picture when that front falls.

Any former employees recognize that 3rd-floor set of stairs in the first two pix? They must have led to a roof door.

1. As of today, they're very close to River St.

2,3. You can see open space behind the front windows on the right. The front of the building could come down tomorrow or Tuesday.

4,5,6. The view from the south

7,8. The view from the northwest (on River near Mercer)
