“Buy and Save 2 Furniture" (first pic - courtesy of Google))  at 149, 153, 155, 153-155, or 158 (the Internet can’t seem to agree on the address, but it can’t be 158………..not on THAT side of the street) burned down today.

I happened to be talking to Editor on the phone when he said he had to go to the scene and to meet him there. I looked out my window and (second pic)…….

I approached it from the back end because I knew Main St would be a mess and the billowing smoke headed across Main to the southeast. If you know where C-Town is on State St, the affected building is behind that on Main. Right next door is one of the 346 new Hackensack projects  and across Main is the seemingly forever non-vertical Hole.

Behind the engulfed building was a much better place to shoot. The roof of the next-door parking garage was a particularly interesting vantage point (see the stitch at the end).

Walking down Mercer to Moore was kind of a waste of time (I posted ONE picture  - IMG_4525). The Nixel notice popped up a minute before I took that shot.

Main St was WAY too congested to get decent shots. Besides, at a certain point, you couldn’t see anything because of all the smoke (next-to-last shot).

The rumor is that the building MAY be torn down tonight, so I might go over there and see if there’s any room on Main St for me and my tripod.

I had heard a rumor yesterday that they might be tearing the building down last night, burt no one seemed to know what time.

The last time I shot something like that, it was at 76 Main and - as I recall - that was pretty late in the evening. For some reason, I decided to go around 8pm.

I was over 3 hours too late. I could have shot it in daylight and maybe have gotten some good stop-action shots..............oh well - next time.

When I got there last night, a cop stopped me and was nice enough to get out of his car and walk down Main St to see if someone would clear me. While I waited - and in case, it was a "no" - I put my camera on something that was on the sidewalk that was two feet tall and flat, set the exposure and timer, zoomed in and took the first shot. Can't go home empty-handed, right?

The cop waved me in.

I set up the tripod dead-center in front of the pile. There's not a lot of shot variety to be had in shooting a pile of rubble at night, so I took the 2-photo stitch (second shot) and a couple of others and talked to a fireman, who turned out to be a contributing HackensackNow.org member. He showed me some of the practically-point-blank video he shot.

I urged him to post the video here, so we'll see if he's still a contributing member in good standing (no pressure, Mike!).

The pile was being water-hosed from behind because there were still some hot spots, but then they started hosing from the front, so the last shot shows both.

I went back this morning because Main St was still closed from Atlantic to Mercer and there was still some hot-spot hosing going on. There was a new problem: a sinkhole had developed on Main St in the vicinty of where I was shooting from last night. (It wasn't me, officer). I couldn't see it because trucks were in the way, but I shot other stuff that I'll post tomorrow.
