FYI  - you CAN park for free at HUMC whether you're having a test done, a doctor's appointment or a procedure. If you park in their parking structure, you will always be given a pass in whatever office you're visiting. If they forget to give you one, ask. You may have to exchange the pass first at the front desk for something you can hand to the exit cashier. The handicap spaces on each floor are always nearest the elevators.

It's a different story if you're just visiting or addicted to valet parking, but if not, it's an easy walk. I've never paid to park there.

Chilton has free parking, as well as Holy Name. St Joseph's in Paterson also charges for parking. Come to think of it I've made too many hospital visits lately  :o

But visitors still are out of luck at Hackensack University Medical Center, I guess you are saying. Then, there is the factor of the medical center being so busy that going to one of the health providers is an ordeal. The main parking garage is always packed, and some areas were closed for renovation when I was there in January and February to go to a dermatologist. I had to go to the top deck to find a space. The hospital has four electric chargers for visitors in one garage, but when I tried to use one all were taken. Ten other electric chargers are reserved for doctors. Who is "addicted" to valet parking?

Top deck? So what? You still take the elevator and walk the same amount. And you're also complaining that the hospital doesn't automatically provide a free charger for your car along with the free parking? After charging your car at home in HACKENSACK, you need a charger after driving ALL THE WAY to Hackensack Hospital? What's that, a mile?

That's not the point. The chargers are for the public, to encourage people to buy electric cars and plug-in hybrids.

If all of them are used by doctors or employees (the four in the other garage), then members of the public aren't served.

And parking on the upper deck isn't that simple, because of the different elevator banks that make you get off and switch elevators. It's pretty confusing, if you go there only a few times a year.

At Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, which is far smaller, there are only 2 electric chargers, and either the same car (an employee) is using one of them or a conventional car is parked in the other space because of a shortage of spaces in general.

If you're going to the medical office building (20 Prospect), there's only one elevator bank on the roof - same with every other floor. Then it's a simple stroll around the corner on the ground floor to the elevators that take you to your destination. If you're going to the hospital (30 Prospect), that's a different building and a different elevator bank. One's on one side of the parking garage and the other one's on the other.............it's not too complicated.

What incentive does a hospital have for encouraging people to buy electric cars? It's not really their job. I'm sure you and others do much better jobs at that with your blogs.

Wow! Huge type AND boldface? You're thisclose to internet shouting. Perhaps instead of a one-mile top-off car charge, someone at the hospital can offer you a chill pill prescription.

Keep your day job. Your attempts at humor are weak.

So you found humor where none was attempted?

Uh-oh.

So you found "attempts at humor" where it says  "none was attempted"?  How does THAT work?

(Geez - it's worse than I thought)   :o

I find it interesting that the only comments on the hospital are about parking and whether electric chargers should be made available to encourage people to buy electric cars. The hospital's non-profit status, despite paying its CEO $3 million a year, seems totally acceptable to everyone.

Well, that's quite a stretch, especially since YOU started this thread only a week ago for the purpose of complaining about the hospital's parking and lack of chargers and NOW you're complaining that the membership ("everyone") isn't complaining about every other HUMC beef you have that you've already complained about in other threads, so that automatically means that everyone's disagreeing with you?

If people want to post about something, they will. Meanwhile, give it a rest, will ya?

HOSPITAL SUBSIDIZES PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Hackensack University Medical Center apparently is subsidizing the city's performing arts center. That's my conclusion from seeing the hospital's name on the marquee: "Hackensack Meridian Health Theater" when I went there last weekend to see "Nunsense" (Englewood Hospital and Medical Center also has rebranded itself as Englewood Health).

I guess it would be a stretch if both hospitals called themselves "life" as in Hackensack Meridian Life or Englewood Life. So, it's good to see the hospital is contributing to the city beyond the $4 million a year in lieu of property taxes being paid to the city each year for 6 years.

I don't know for sure, but I'm skeptical of the $3-million-a-year CEO's claim that HUMC is an economic engine for Hackensack. I'm sure city services far outweigh what is spent in the city each day and don't know how many of the employees actually live in the city. To me, the hospital is a burden on the neighborhood, whose residential character has been destroyed by endless expansion, and so busy I hate to go there the few times a year I have to.

I posted photos and videos of the show at the performing arts center on Instagram and used the abbreviation HPAC, but later saw the acronym HACPAC on the TapIntoHackensack news site. I loved the show, but found legroom in the 2nd-floor auditorium to be limited.

The parking at Englewood Health (Englewood Hospital and Medical Center), whether valet or self-park, is free.
