Ionic Base Ball Club of Hackensack - 19th Century Base Ball
« on: September 19, 2016, 07:44:32 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I play 19th Century Base Ball and, as a resident of Hackensack, would like to recreate the 1866 Ionic Base Ball Club of Hackensack. I have been able to find general information about the team and will continue searching through microfilm and communicating with local base ball historians to expand my research. However, I have been unable to find any pictures of the team or uniforms. So, I was wondering if any longtime Hackensack residents have photographs of the team or players. Part of recreating a 19th century base ball team is accurately reproducing the uniforms if possible. Any information about the Ionic Club, or 19th century Hackensack Base Ball in general, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly.

Lorne

Welcome Lorne.

Did you play at New Bridge? https://www.facebook.com/events/614195115397743/

You may be aware of the information below, but I am posting for general reference.

George Scudder just mentioned the team in his work here: http://www.hackensacknow.com/HistoricFactsb.pdf

Early Hackensack Baseball, but not early enough for you: http://www.hackensacknow.org/index.php/topic,1837.msg5627.html#msg5627

We'll keep our eyes open.  :o

Thank you for your response and your links. The first set of photos with the "all-star" crew is quite interesting.

Another link you may find interesting is a post by John Zinn http://amanlypastime.blogspot.com/2015/07/base-ball-in-new-barbados.html

I did not play at New Bridge but am familiar with the clubs. I currently play with a team based out of Union County.

I am hoping by next summer I can have the club ready and a few matches for the season. Hackensack has a rich baseball history and I'd like to help preserve it.

Thanks again.
