9 JERKS!

Oh, sorry, that's NYNJERCKS, which stands for the New York New Jersey Endangered Rivers Canoe and Kayak Squad. This committed group of biologists, educators, artists and environmental specialists from federal, state and county governments and local non-profit organizations choose a different ecologically challenged river to paddle each year, and this year they are coming to the Hackensack! Over 30 canoes and kayaks will begin the trip on Friday morning at Lake Lucille in Rockland County, NY and will end on Sunday afternoon at Laurel Hill County Park in Secaucus, after which participants will be transported by van (those who haven't had enough may continue paddling...) to the 16th Street Park in Bayonne.

Participants will be camping out on Friday and Saturday nights (that's right - campin' on the Hacky!). The Sunday leg of the trip will go from Foschini Park in Hackensack to Laurel Hill County Park in Secaucus, and this segment is open to the public - if you would like to accompany the Jerks for all or part of this segment, please call Jared Eudell at the office at 201-968-0808 for more information. So come on out and help make this an even bigger spectacle than it is already shaping up to be! If you want to cheer on the Jerks, and would like to know when the "squad" will be passing through your neck of the river, please call the office before Friday at 201-968-0808 or from Friday through Sunday at 201-832-9432. Sponsored by Hackensack Riverkeeper, NY/NJ Baykeeper, the Teaneck Creek Conservancy, Bergen SWAN and a loose association of environmental professionals affectionately known as 9 Jerks (NYNJERCKS).
