What happens when the school bully is your boss?!?!
Ageism Scandal Embroils Elisabeth Morrow School
What kind of a message does that send our kids??? “I’m sorry but once you reach the age of 50 you no longer are useful to society?” or “You have nothing to teach our children despite your years of experience??”
Fortunately, a couple of teachers are fighting back by filing a lawsuit against the school’s administrators, but that’s no guarantee that this age discrimination will stop. If you live in Bergen County, New Jersey or the surrounding area and are surprised that you haven’t heard about this situation yet, consider this: the Borg family controls the Bergen County Record and all the suburban papers having a strangle hold on all local information in Bergen County. A Borg family member also sits on the board of The Elisabeth Morrow School!!!!! Makes one wonder, if there was a discrimination scandal and lawsuit at any other school – public or private – wouldn’t The Record be all over it??? After all, they’ve covered and broken dozens and dozens of discrimination lawsuits in past years…Why not now?
If you are a teacher or a parent of children who attend this school, live in Northern New Jersey, subscribe to the Bergen County Record newspaper (or even work there), are a teacher anywhere in America, or just can’t stand the thought of AGEISM, then you must read on!!!
Here are the details:
The Elisabeth Morrow School is a private elementary school located in the Town of Englewood, New Jersey, which is part of Bergen County.
Betty Cahill and Karyn Fasciotti, two teachers at Elisabeth Morrow’s Chilton House have filed an age discrimination lawsuit against school administrators David Lowry, Jean Schreiber, Robin Hollander and Laurel Zimmermann.
These administrators at the Elisabeth Morrow School appear to have undertaken a discriminatory course of conduct to rid Chilton House of its older staff, including Betty Cahill and Karyn Fasciotti, by scrutinizing, negatively criticizing and isolating older teachers, and favoring younger teachers. Are they increasing prices to parents while they bring in cheaper, less experienced teachers?
Betty Cahill is 61 years old and has been teaching at Chilton House for 30 years. She has always performed her duties in a competent and conscientious manner. Further, she has consistently received excellent feedback from parents.
Karyn Fasciotti is 53 years old and has been teaching at Chilton House in the Nursery Program for 18 years. She has always performed her duties in a competent and conscientious manner. Further, she has consistently received excellent feedback from parents.
What can you do to help?
Whether you support these teachers or not, the public deserves to know the facts. Please email, call, write and / or fax The Bergen County Record and ask them why they haven’t covered the Elisabeth Morrow Discrimination story??
