What is happening with the Salvation Army Building on State Street?   Is the block across from it slated for improvement (Amco, Bank of NY, grass parking lot)?

The Salvation Army is under renovation, it's just taking a long time. The house right behind it was knocked down and that'll be a parking lot.

Directly across the street is a project currently before the Planning Board for an 7-story condo. The building will be very large, 90 upscale units, and stretching from Warren to Bergen. Very high lot coverage. The Planning Board told them last month to come back October 12th with a taller building that has a smaller footprint.

Thanks.   Faith Foundation is in the block slated for the condo.   Is there any talk of the city blocking any move to another location?

Lt. Eileen Valverde in the small basement office in Christ Church in Teaneck on Sunday.

The Salvation Army Hackensack Corps, known for helping the needy - especially during the holidays, when the group's Red Kettle bell ringers are out in full force - is now struggling itself. The charity is trying to find a home.

Operating out of a tiny temporary office in a Teaneck church since Sept. 1, the organization has had to dramatically curtail the services it can offer. It has been forced to temporarily suspend operation of its family food pantry and its after-school program, said Paul Valverde, who is a commanding officer of the Hackensack chapter, as is his wife, Eileen.

"We want to break that cycle of poverty," Valverde said.
