Events & Calendar / Holy Trinity Church 2023 Carnival - May 24 to 28
« Last post by BLeafe on May 20, 2023, 01:06:59 PM »
It's back and it's next week from Wednesday through Sunday, May 24-28.

I saw the poster in the window at Fratelli's Pizza on Anderson St (immediately east of the tracks), the banner was in its usual location on the Anderson St side of the former Holy Trinity Convent on Pangborn Pl and the other stuff was online.

Who knew that Holy Trinity Church uses QR codes? WAY too hip!

And be sure to NOT wear open-toed footwear at the carnival, lest you be banned from certain rides (as per the 4th image).

Been detoured around these streets recently? I took a walk around the area a week ago when they started.

Passaic St was being all dug up where it crossed the tracks (and where it’s been extremely unsmooth just driving over the track area). I don’t know if there’s more to what they’re doing than that, but the fact that Passaic St is still partially closed might lead you to believe that something else is going on.

Railroad Ave had a bunch of large sewer pipes lining the east side of the street and I’m told that when they’re installed, they’ll be doing the same thing on the west side of the street.

I’m sure there are more knowledgeable people in town who are reading this that might care to post better, more up-to-date information.

Meanwhile, enjoy the pix and click them - especially the PANOs - to fully-enlarge.

UPDATE: The detour sign that’s been on Passaic St by Union St is gone as of today, May 10, so I’m guessing that they’ve finished the work by the tracks.

I was heading south on Main St Friday morning and had just passed B&W when I saw smoke up ahead. As I got closer, I saw that it was coming from a car or truck. Flames were coming from the engine and below it.

No one was behind me, so I stopped the car, took a quick shot out the window and drove on.

Dunno what happened after that.

Hackensack Discussion / Update: Construction at 95 Anderson St
« Last post by BLeafe on April 29, 2023, 11:29:59 AM »
This is a continuation of the photos shown in the link in the previous post that covered work at 95 Anderson - the "Rudy's Rentals" space mentioned in that link - up to March 8.

The below photos go from March 15 to April 20 and were mostly taken at the site, two were taken from a couple of blocks away at street level and the first one was taken from my kitchen - 3 blocks away and 7 floors up. The dates are below each picture.

Be sure to click everything to enlarge them.

Hackensack Discussion / Re: My favorite paper is not having a good day
« Last post by BLeafe on April 26, 2023, 04:30:00 PM »
Boy, they are really messing up lately.

1. First, there was this notice on the front page of today's paper. It mentions deadline problems - time-related issues that did not prepare me for what was (or wasn't) inside.

2. The only time-related issue here is that it's time to find the colored inks. Black-and-white comics? C'mon! (BTW - they're fully-colored in the online edition.............is this another stunt to push people to digital-only?). I included the full-color front page of the main section in the photo to show that I didn't remove the comics' color.

3. I recycle my newspapers by collecting them in a paper bag and alternating where the fold of each paper is, so they don't pile up lopsided. That generally evens the pile vertically.............until you get to the "we-forgot-how-to-fold-a-paper-in-half" editions of the last 3 days.

What's next? White ink newsprint on white paper?

Photography...........the way I see it (Moderated by BLeafe) / Hole in Anderson St
« Last post by BLeafe on April 25, 2023, 11:11:44 AM »
This happened a week ago (I'm running a bit behind lately).

1. Saw this.

2. Got this PANO shot of the scene by the former-Rudy's construction site. The first thing I flashed on was another Anderson St hole about 3 blocks east in 2009 when an ancient water main made of brick collapsed, as did the road. Could this (literally) be connected to that event?

I asked Mr Editor if he knew what this was about. He suggested that it may be utility service for the new project.

He was right. I was later told it was a sewer connection for the new building.

3. The hole was covered up the next day, so I figured it couldn't be a collapsed brick water main (that one took a couple of weeks to get fixed in 2009). However, the hole was reopened the day after that. NOW what?

4. I was told that a non-specific error had been made and was being corrected. I asked if I could take a quick closeup of the new hole. I got the OK and took this very-rushed PANO.

No more hole.............the street is whole.
