Editor' nice picture.....I have what I think is a Sharp Shinned Hawk that visits my back yard...but all he eat's is the Morning Doves...they must be like veal...I wish he would eat some squirrel's or pigeons....

Over the last 3 years it's practically wiped out all the Morning Doves...

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Tunnel canceled - sad day for Hackensack

I say, Thank You Mr. Christie for making the hard decisions, I'm one of those N.J. Citizens that dosn't wan't to have to pay more in taxes to fund cost over run's on the project...the tunnel will be of more benefit to N.Y.C than Hackensack...just like the Governor say's let Mayor Bloomberg send a check if he want's the tunnel......
After all He's something like the 10th or 17th
richest man in the world...

Just a rememberance of mine from the 60's & 70's ...

Before and up until the Mcdonalds was built on River st...(I'm not saying it was built in the 60's)... but if you were standing in the rear parking lot behind the YMCA looking south and crossed Passaic st into the parking lot that is behind the Hackensack Fruit market and Alywards and whatever else is there and in between Mcdonalds there were trolly tracks in that parking lot that were probably pulled up or paved over in the early 70's........

They would have run south from there  between the tennis courts or right over them and the stores and theaters and house's or go go bars..whatever was there at the time......

but the point being....... I remember the trolly tracks there and i my opinion thats where the trolly yard was.........

Does anyone remember a severly overgrown Church on the corner of Union and Central or Park and Central during the 60's and early 70's it was called The Church Insects......

I'm not kidding.....I walked past it everyday for many years in that time frame....I was always intriqued but I guess not enough to go in....and it was so overgrown it was scary

If only there was a "Total Wine" store (or a Foodtown) in that area to the left of that road.............

That's funny....and That sure would CINCH it......
or wheres Arthur Treacher's fish and Chips.....ha....ha

Great  After shot....though....it is a good possibility....But we can't be Positive......

Don't wait for me to post any After locations...I wish I could, But I lack the tools, to do so.....

I wasn't doubting you Bob....I just thought you had that location in writting from the original owner or the seller usualy you post a link ....

Shoot... Catalpa is an incline.......maybe it was right down the street from old Karl F. (Pappas) ?

The Streets in Before picture, except the incline....are not defined enough so we can't tell if the are even streets..

Your still the Greatest Bob.....Thanks for Sharing... ;)

Bob.....Why does that have to be Kinderkamack....I dont see anything on the card saying that....maybe it's not that far North....

Maybe, possibly... the incline is running east to west...maybe it's someplace a little further south.....i.e. Main and SpringValley,(with the incline being SpringValley) facing sort of west...

or Main and Davis...(incline being Davis) I'm just saying....is there something that tells you it's nowadays Riveredge ...

Johnny G.....It is weird how Huyler St and South State St are only separated by a side walk.....and it makes you wonder WHY...

But like the clip that The Editor posted...... way back then some streets were formed where Indian and Farm trails were.....

It  turns out as you noted that Huyler St made a good parking lot....for that part of town.....

Only 14.1 % of registered voters showed to vote...We get what we deserve...I guess..

I'm not saying there shouldn't be a budget ...But this asking for more this year than last year cycle has to stop....

And I agree with Christie, Teachers have to start contributing a potion for benefits and other changes need to be made...

It's my understanding a part time lunch room monitor can draw a pension or a partial pension .....

Times are tough cant keep raising taxes....

and how about the cops $110,000.00 a year + then $65.00 an hour to sit in a running city cop car, doing side work at a ultility work location... some taking down $200,000.00 a year.... they can pay for their bene's also...we pay that $65.00 an hour in higher ultility rates.... and our taxes pay for the vehicle and insurance's if officer get's hurt or engine wears out running the car A/C for 10 hours in 90 degree weather..

Wouldn't want to begrudge the cops anything...it's a dangerous job...but when is enough ....ENOUGH... something has to give...

I should have been a cop at 200 grand a year...thats a million in 5 years....

I work in the Private sector for a fortune 50 company, and I pay a good portion towards my benefits....

I remember it was a Two Guy's before it was Bradlee's...

Target, K-Mart, Sear's of now a days...... can't hold a candle to stores like Modell's and Two Guy's, Old Valley Fair, not the Valley Fair of recent years.....Bradlee's was OK though...

There was a Candy Store at the top of Essex St...... called Breslow's....that I remember....

What a treasure trove, it was a luncheonette & they sold toys, candy, models, newspapers, mags, stationary goods, hardware items and much more.....this was the 60's and early to mid 70's.....(my memories)

I'm sure it was three in the 40's and 50's also...

It was in between Hill Top Liquors and the old Shop Rite that was there...

The street now named Wysocki Place used to be called something else, and there was a bar

The Bar was Pete's.....and later it was The Court House Inn....
