it was under the billboard, right next to Gavin's Auto Colors.  we used to walk to it to get milk.

they are not reopening this time.  they were liquidated at auction.  when the dollar store closes you are in some deep trouble...

are you sure?  I believe this view is looking west.  that station was at the corner of American Legion Dr. and Prospect Ave(northeast corner) where the remnants of the staircase is. The bridge is the Prospect Ave bridge.

the 3rd pic is the gatekeepers house that was between Maple and Clinton. we used to play in it all the time.

that is exactly where the image is.  North Hackensack..

I grew up on it, but it has changed.  I still have it at least once a week.    I saw an article in the record a few months ago about a former owner/worker going to Allwood Bakery in Clifton and taking the recipe with him.  I took a drive a couple of weeks ago, and I gotta tell ya, it is far superior to what B&W is making now.

I believe the terheun house was roughly located on the sears parking lot. it was torn down to make way for the Hackensack pool, which was filled in to make  parking lot for sears.

the school in the image is not a Hackensack school.  I have the book. no city school burned during that time frame.  I got my copy of the book when I graduated high school, but it was written by Mr. Scudder in 1973

Baldwin Park fronts Grand Ave, between Poplar Ave and Ross Ave.  It shows on an old map I have from the 1920's, but it might have been named differently then.

Hackensack Discussion / Re: 24-story tower for Summit Avenue
« on: February 15, 2009, 07:12:14 PM »
yes.

I'm confused when I read this thread, so please allow me to ask a question because I've been away from home for so long.  Is this proposed tower at the same location as the two houses which were back-to-back, one on Prospect Avenue and one on Summit Avenue, and were owned by a Dr. Aurelio Buonanno back in the late 1970's?  Thanks!
