Hackensack Discussion / Re: White Manna
« on: July 13, 2010, 11:30:08 AM »
Please tell the gentleman questioning these individuals the correct pronunciation for White Manna.

I recently read an article with regard to the fastest growing burger chains.  I found it quite interesting.  Check out http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/jul/12/burger-joints-on-the-rise/

Here is the other trolley discussion.

I recall a discussion on this topic on this site back in 2006.  Maybe the Editor can link the 2 topics?

Personally, I believe the Molinelli stand is just for show.  I believe both he and Padilla are cronies of Chief Zisa and should step away from the situation totally.  This matter needs to be handled by the State Attorney General's office and maybe they can arrive at the truth.  While coverage of the Record has not always been accurate on issues involving Hackensack, the County Seat is so politically swayed it is hard to believe anything they print dealing with governing issues.  I must, however, give them kudos on its coverage of school plays and municipal activities.

With regard to the comments of Just Watching and HHS72, I grew up in Hackensack and agree with the history given.

This issue is bigger than Democrats or Republicans but an issue about people who forgot what good government means.

Hackensack Discussion / BLeafe - Putting a Face to a Name
« on: April 12, 2010, 07:58:54 AM »
The front page of the Local Section of the Record has an article with regard to one of the first students to receive a polio shot.  If the Bob Leafe that is pictured in that article is the same Bleafe who shares his pictures of Hackensack on this site, it is nice to put a face to the name.  It is even nicer to thank him for his pictorial history of Hackensack.  So, thank you Mr. Leafe!

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Downtown Main Street
« on: April 04, 2010, 10:49:44 AM »
I was on Main Street last week and noticed the closing of the store which was formerly Jaemart.  This store was located between Atlantic and Mercer and next door to the old Woolworth store.  I noticed that across the street, Mangos had also closed.

I pray that Limon's new plan works.  After all, success for Main Street means success for all of Hackensack

Hackensack Discussion / Re: 24-story tower for Summit Avenue

I think that it is ridiculous that this town schedules Board of Ed meetings, and Zoning Board meetings on the same day.  There are also times when the City Council meeting and the Board of Ed fall on the same date.

Next Board of Education meeting is Tuesday, February 23rd at 7:30 pm in the Middle School auditorium.  I suggest you stay for the meeting and have your request placed in the minutes.  Bring some of your friends and business representatives from the neighborhood.  There is strength in numbers.

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Solar powered street lights

My understanding is that they will be replacing all mercury vapor lights throughout the city at no cost to the city.

The next School Board meeting is January 26th at 7:30 pm at the 5/6 School.  Take your opportunity to air your complaint directly to the Board.

That property was finally approved for construction for the Martin Luther King Senior Center.  The Martin Luther King Senior Center currently uses space in the Varick Memorial AME Zion Church on Atlantic Street.

Hackensack Discussion / Re: The Record is leaving

Please!!! Many people viewing this site believe that the County Toilet Seat is not a "fair and balanced" reporting agent but was created as a means of self-serving promotion of its political views.  If it were fair and balanced, it would print letters to the Editor opposing some of the views presented in their articles.  I realize that the Editor has the right to choose what items they print but the failure to print any different view makes the declaration of "fair and balanced" to be dishonest at best.

It is ridiculous that something so simple cannot be corrected.  However, I am amazed that the school system referred you to the City Manager.  They are supposedly autonomous governing bodies.  In this case, I believe the buck stops with the superintendant who is the boss over all employees from the principals to the custodians.  The schools have a capital improvement fund.  The Board found 1.2 million to complete the Padovano building after the County Special Services backed out on their use of the building.  I do not see why they cannot find the funds to evaluate and correct the problem.  It could be even more basic than that.  They can just make it routine that the bells, and sound systems are listed in things to lock and shutoff when school is not in session.   I suggest you go to a Board of Education meeting where your request can be placed on the record in public.  Possibly, you may get results.
