It's usually pretty quiet around here on Sunday mornings, but not yesterday. I heard men yelling and my ears pointed my eyes south toward the Middle School where I saw activity on the soccer pitch: kids running around and men throwing footballs.

Shoot first and ask questions later. The first 8 pictures are what I saw in the order I saw them. Then I asked Google the questions and the answers included something about the Bergen County Girls Flag Football League, its logo and the fact that games will be starting on Sunday, April 2.

1. Anybody remember this shot from 11 years ago? It appeared here (second shot): http://www.hackensacknow.org/index.php/topic,2352

2. It's now the front cover of a book of poetry. Whodathunkit?

Unfortunately, the cover is WAY too dark (I brightened it up a bit here) and the bird must have eaten my photo credit. The author assures me that both problems will be corrected.

Hackensack Discussion / Very Tall New Electrical Poles on River St
« on: March 13, 2023, 03:45:01 PM »
1. On February 7, I happened to notice from my living room that some colorful orange work was being done on an electrical pole on River St.

2. Soon after, I saw a much taller pole that was at about a 45º angle being raised.

3. That was a pretty easy sequence to shoot.

4. Four days later, I'm on the Teaneck Greenway and notice the same pole, the picture window I shot it from and how really tall it is.

5. Exactly a month after that, the sun is shining on a bunch of new River St poles and their really-up-there wires.

Is this going to happen all over town? What's the main reason for such an increase in height?

This is the story that's in the video's writeup.............and be sure to crank up the sound for full effect (and please hit the "Watch on YouTube" link so the view counts):

It was busy at the hospital, so I had to park on the roof of the parking garage.

There's a nice view up there, so after my appointment, I took a few photos..............and then I heard a plane. It was a private jet heading for Teterboro Airport, which is about 3 miles south of where I was standing.

Time for a quick switch to video.

There's been a big stink for years about the noise and pollution of many aircraft flying low - directly over the hospital (and many high-rise apartment buildings on the same street) - and new routes were proposed that were to take the planes over a nearby highway instead.

They might need to work on that a little harder. Here are 4 planes that flew directly overhead in a period of...............EIGHT MINUTES!

And be sure to follow the bouncing sun reflection ball.

There's a story in today's Record (the link is "subscribers only") that basically says this: the main 3-story building and iconic tower will be preserved and a 258-unit apartment building will be "constructed around it" (I'm not sure how that works).

There will also be almost 18,000 square feet of retail space along Main St and Anderson St, two interior courtyards and a pool.

Can't wait to see what this will look like.

That's a phrase I'm reading a lot lately from boomer posts about their musicians - many of whom I used to photograph and have posted images of on this site.

We lost two more last week - drummer Neil Peart of Rush and David Crosby of CSN (and sometimes Y):

1. Here's Neil at Radio City in 1983.

2. And here's David (right) with Graham Nash during a Crosby, Stills and Nash performance at Madison Square Garden on Halloween 1986 at the Crackdown benefit ("Crackdown on Crack"). Other performers included the Allman Brothers, Santana, Run-DMC, Mick Taylor, Felix Cavaliere and Tito Puente(!).

3. If you're interested, this is what the benefit was about.

4. You'll notice that Graham Nash is wearing a Crackdown artist's pass. Here's mine.

R.I.P., Jeff Beck.

Besides being an absolute guitar wizard, he was a joy to photograph in performance.

These are two of my favorite shots of him. I took the GUITAR cover shot in 1980 at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic and the magazine came out in February, 1984. But my favorite shot of him (right) was taken at Bergen Community College in Paramus in 1976, where I was a faculty member at the time and had strongly advised the director of Student Activities - who was offered a choice of music acts by a booking agent ("Is this Beck guy any good?") - to book him.............QUICKLY!

While performing, he seemed to be posing for me like a bathing beauty. You don't get many moments in life like that (and so close to home).

He will REALLY be missed.

...........I went for a walk and photographed all sorts of things, including the holiday decorations on The Green.

Yeah - it would have been better to do it before Christmas and do it at night when it's all lit up (I assume), but better late..............

They're all PANOs, BTW, so click to enlarge.
