Title: 62 Linden Place
Post by: Editor on March 29, 2004, 08:40:21 PM
This was the subject of an earlier post.

There is an abandoned warehouse on Linden, just behind George's Liquor Store. See picture and text to follow:

The warehouse sits right next to the Anderson Street Rail stop, and the trains practically open to the rear door of the warehouse.

As far as I know, the buidling hasn't been used in years and I'm not sure if its on the market.

I think the potential here is enormous. This would be the ideal spot for a good coffe shop/newsstand/dry-cleaning operation. Naturally, it would cater to commuter needs. This is just the sort of property that the "NJ Transit Village" program encourages.

Anyone with some money and decent business skill may do very well there.

No.  I believe the owner is being liened for the demolition.

See my post above from 5 years ago.

I just spoke to a friend that said... the rear potion of the property was a printing shop in the late 60's & 70's.

I was told today by someone familiar with the property, that if you look at the picture from the rear of the property, the building on the left at one time was a Stable for Hackensack's Fire Horses.  If you look at the peak of the old barn... there is a door to raise hay bails. I've that in an old Fire House where I was stationed in Teaneck.

If you look at the picture from the front, the second building back was a Gas Station and the Gas Pumps were where the front building is now.

 Any thoughts on this ?

Well, let's see what it looks like when it's built.  I see it is something like 84% lot coverage, and the lot is smaller than a 50 x 100 standard single-family house lot. It's hard to believe they are making an apartment building, even a small one, on that lot.  Hackensack zoning decisions are getting like Jersey City.  Probably, the existing condition was a factor in their decision.  I'm not a fan of that small abandoned warehouse either.  Maybe it's got phenomenal architecture, great facade with cultured stone.  Who knows. We'll see.

The Mayor and Council should issue a proclamation to whoever the developer is praising his good efforts.
