That structure may have been symbolic rather than functional since bells were not installed but the suggestion of bells is in line with the design of a church.

Your photos show that the building seems to be kept in excellent condition. Considering the various older trades that were involved in it's construction that is quite a feat in itself.

Picture #2 is a good example showing a tile roof, plastered exterior walls, an arched wooden door and some nice stonework. The intricate trim and detail shown in picture #3 is fascinating.

A good example of things we may see every day but do not really look at. Thanks for the look.

An ideal place to hang some bells as in the original Spanish style churches.http://www.inkasdestination.com/en-cusco-peru/useful-info/spanish-churches-and-museums.php

Beautiful pictures showing the detail and workmanship involved in this type of construction.

In spite of the numerous sites provided in a Google search I could not find any info on when the church was built.

Could Bruce really be "The AlMighty Bed King"? Mr. Sears definitely had the upper hand over Mr. Roebuck, a shameful public display of power.

My guess would be a rolled up scroll and a quill pen. More appropriate for a library than a muffler although that is what it looks like....perhaps the muffler is a sign of the need for quiet by those who enter here  ;D

In the 60's or 70's there was a small boat ramp on the river at the foot of Passaic St. There was a tire dealer there also and the ramp might have been part of a boat service company.

Great photos that make you think about the subject...my favorite kind. The old tracks are fascinating in that they look like structural I-beams not standard railroad tracks. They also do not seem to be spaced the same as the tracks that are obviously still in use. That would be an interesting subject to research since whatever used those tracks was not a conventional railroad train.

The black rhino seems to have a slow leak indicated by the wrinkles in his legs.

The remains of someone's once treasured car has been loaded on a pallet and given an ID number so perhaps it's life is not over yet.

The talented Mockingbird is my favorite winged entertainer. They are very territorial and will raise a fuss and come to blows over a disputed area. Their ability to mimic other birds and even a cat or a squeaky gate is amazing.

Impressive pictures. I wonder what the altitude of the bottom of the cloud bank was. One of my favorite free shows when I worked in Miami or Lauderdale years ago was to sit in my no frills motel on the ocean and watch the lightning shows off shore. Spectacular displays with non-stop sheets and bolts down to the water's surface. The only up side to the 100% humidity and blast furnace heat in the swamp turned resort that was South Florida in the summer.

The cloud bank looks like the space ship in Independence Day. Summer storms are great examples of the awesome power of nature. Was there any damage from that storm? We certainly have had some ferocious storms role through in the Summer and Fall, thankfully not many of tornado strength.

That should keep the pigeons off the statue reducing future cleaning costs.

A city with the historic past of Hackensack should revert back to the practices of ancient Rome and place a larger than life gold statue of the presiding Bergen County Executive in place of Enlightenment, naturally to be melted down and recast with each new administration...a plum assignment for the statue maker who helped the most...  ;)

It is under the Function Menu in my downloaded copy of the manual. The days of having the instructions in your pocket or camera bag are history. I downloaded it to my lap top so I can study whenever and wherever I get the urge to learn new tricks in a hobby I felt smarter in during the analog age.

I assume the 130 has it since it's a later version camera. I access the format selection by pushing the center select button which brings up the format screen, step to W which gives you a 3648X2048 photo.

If you have not had the chance to download the manual it is well worth the time and effort since it is full of explanations and hints on all the tricks these cameras are capable of doing.

That is a fascinating drink menu, serving everything from Courvoisier to a glass of Muscatel. I wonder what the full course $1.00 Sunday dinner consisted of.

A Hubbard 7 phone number, when Hackensack was served by the Hubbard 7,8 and 9 and Diamond 2 and 3 exchanges both located in the State Street Central Office. In the days when a person's telephone number gave away where they lived.

That is an interesting photo of the park. I have never tried a merge but I will try it with a series of analog photos I have scanned into the computer that I took when the Monksville dam was being built. I took some of them from the top of the dam viewing the landscape from South to North capturing a good look at the soon to be submerged Wanaque River and a few main roads including houses that were going to be moved.

Did you use the standard or widescreen format in your panorama?

With the river in the background, belching smoke stack and older buildings Hackensack looks like it is from another era. Nice shot in sepia?
