where was the destruction photo taken?

197
As the auction says, it was at 293 Lookout Ave.  The building was torn down in the early 90's.  it was a large 2 1/2 story frame building that took 2 or 3 lots up on the block.  the parking lot for 290 Anderson St occupies the site, I think they took down one more house also building the lot.  In its final years it was the New Jersey Headquarters for the Moonies.

last year it was October, so its an improvement.

It's March 18 - time to finally take down.................the CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTS!

Target in Paramus is doing a remodel and there are trailers in a fenced area in the garage under the store, might be the same thing at the Hackensack store. I heard Aero bought the building the psychic was in and will use the lot for parking.

so let me see if I read this right.  4 grades in 1 school.(or what should be one school)  2 principals & 5 vice principals-along with 2 different staffs.  Wonder why taxes are out of control?

I do not live in Hackensack anymore.  my oldest son goes to a 4 year middle school. same as Hackensack. the difference is that they have one principal and one vice principal and 2 secretaries.  And that school runs very efficiently.

If the Hackensack Middle school cant run that way, maybe its time to find some new people that can run it properly. They did when I went there with 3 grades, 150 kids extra for the 4th grade in does not warrant a whole new set of staffs.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The preliminary budget would also call for the Middle School and the 5ive/6ix School to share a principal, and three vice principals. Each school currently has a principal. The middle school has three vice principals and the 5ive/6ix School has two.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hackensack Discussion / Re: North Hackensack Pathmark to close
« on: February 19, 2011, 06:54:12 PM »
you didnt work at this one.  it wasnt there in the 50's. The one that is closing is at 450 Hackensack Ave, commonly known as the North Hackensack location. it was built behind where Two Guys was, after Bradlees took over part of the building.
the one on Rt. 17 is called the Hackensack store. that one isnt closing.

and believe it not I think the one with the house and uprooted tree is at the corner of John St and Union St. northwest corner, the house is still there, looks just like the one in the shot.

the church was an easy one. it is a shot of St. Joseph Church in Paterson right after the great fire of 1902. the Church is still there at the corner of Carroll St and Market St.  I couldnt get the google earth image here though.

Main St from Spring Valley to at least Orchard St is essentially one and a half lanes wide. many corners need to be cleaned up.

the last remnant of that wall visible in the photo is still there, in the river at Johnson Park. more of it used to be visible above the water and it used to form an L, but the water level is slightly higher than it was when we used to catch eels and sunnies sitting in front of it(in 1980).

Hackensack Discussion / Re: 2010 Census Data
« on: December 21, 2010, 10:42:03 PM »
you dont really believe the census data do you? It has not been accurate in this city since the 1960 census. And it is way under counted today. you can take the population south of Essex St east of the tracks and at least double what was counted.  you can take the count from the 5 apartment buildings surrounding Anderson St. park and triple it.  and thats just for starters.

That building was the train station from the 1930's when the station at Main St ceased to be, until 1966 when passenger service shut down. you paid the ticket at street level then went up the stairs to the platform. the sign was over the station.

Ratner Oldsmobile was first located at First & Atlantic in the building now occupied by Hackensack Roofing.  they moved in the 1960's to the building now occupied by Hackensack Market on Passaic St. they went out of business in the early 1990's during the first GM purge of dealerships, and the building was vacant until Hackensack Market moved in from their former location at Packards. Feldner Cadillac then took over Oldsmobile sales in the area until they too went out of business.

later on it was the Moon church.  it was torn down to build 290 Anderson St.
