Title: Yogi Berra
Post by: BLeafe on September 24, 2015, 04:23:35 PM
I didn't have any funny or meaningful encounters with the man, but I did get to take a picture of him in deep thought at Yankees Spring Training camp in Fort Lauderdale in 1982. I also got ONE of childhood hero Mickey Mantle and TWO of Whitey Ford (including one with Gerry Cooney - remember him?) that day.

Why so few pictures of these Yankee greats? The story and other Yankees pix - including one of Yogi throwing out the first pitch at a World Series game - are on my site under "New York Yankees" (the link is below).

There WAS one humorous Yogi moment I recall: I went to a Mets game when he managed them in the 70s and I was sitting in a fairly-inebriated section behind home plate. At one point, he came out of the dugout to make a pitching change. Some guy who was sitting 2 or 3 rows in front of me stood up and in a VERY loud and Hispanic-accented voice screamed:

"YOGI BERRA - YOU NO GOOD! YOU DRINK YOO-HOO!!"
