Hackensack History / Re: The 1962 Wally Schirra Main St Parade

I found 2 more images from the parade. The first is of Schirra's parents with James Webb - NASA's director and the man for whom the successor to the Hubble telescope will be named.

The second picture shows NJ Governor Richard Hughes waving as he passes Banta Place.

Hackensack History / The 1962 Wally Schirra Main St Parade
« on: October 30, 2008, 01:40:09 AM »
On October 15, 1962, Original 7 Mercury astronaut Wally Schirra of Oradell (born in Hackensack Hospital) was given a parade on Main St, Hackensack. I just found these pictures taken by my mother, from whom I seem to have inherited the photo gene.

Mom appears to have been running after Wally all over Main St, from David Burr to Womrath's and...............Vic Tanny's?

(maybe that's where the Riviera girls stayed in shape)

Want it? It's available on eBay until tomorrow afternoon (Monday, 10/6/08 - sorry, I just found it) from a nice lady in Rutherford.

And what I do or don't do is your business because..............why? How odd that someone who utilizes research to find answers to local questions, didn't bother to do that when the answers were a click away.

Look before you leap.

This Hackensack babe agrees with me:

Thank you for clarifying.  I am glad you have not sold out your soul.

For future reference, I'LL worry about my soul, thank you.

AGAIN, I REPEAT MY INQUIRY:

You are frequently posting a lot of Hackensack things for sale on eBay   Could it be that you are constantly searching eBay for Hackensack relics?  Or, here's another plausible scenario: YOU have a huge collection of Hackensack artifacts and photos, and YOU are selling them off.

Here's a third scenario: YOU have a wild imagination and need to rein it in.

If you had bothered to look, you'd see that the sellers of those eBay items are all different people in different states.........it's NOT me.

I do look to see what's on eBay in Hackensack and lots of other places. If I see something that might be of interest to someone here, I'm happy to tell about it.

Much like I did last week when YOU were gushing about the Hackensack photos that you said you would have bought for more money than they went for.

Now you strike an accusatory tone when I show you more interesting items?

Make up your mind - is it to your (and Hackensack's) benefit that I let you know when possible local treasures are out there for the taking or would you prefer that I leave you in the dark and let them slip away to someone in another location?

And please learn to spell my name correctly - it's right in front of you.

Bob, can you find a photo of the Jewelry factory from that eBay collection. Are there more photos on the eBay collection, or did you buy them all.

I thought the link was posted. I didn't buy them. They're still on eBay until 10:22 tonight.................I hope you see this in time if you want them!

The last I saw, they were up to $19.38.

Good luck!

Update: I emailed the writer about the sign, thinking he'd get a chuckle out of it and that'd be it.

He emailed me back and said he updated his post.

Something more familiar is there now.

Anyone notice that the "Hackensack" sign on that page shows a population with 3 digits?

It's from Hackensack, MN.
