I took these yesterday:

1. Love the outfit - especially the gloves. Looks like she's marching in the Arbor Day parade.

2. Kipps Bend

3. You need a really strong truck for this load.

4. The balloons reflect as someone who I hope is not an airhead.

5. Dad was in the shot (he kicked the ball), but it looks more interesting this way (sorry, Dad).

Hackensack Discussion / Sears gets a facelift
« on: May 22, 2011, 04:07:09 PM »
This occurred early this morning. My guess is that it's time to repaint the letters. You can see that this procedure removed a lot of the blue paint and that the cherry-picker sports a painting company's website address.

The last time I saw them paint the letters was when they changed them from red to blue 17 years ago, as you can see in the second image (taken from my site).

Hackensack Discussion / Tree taken down
« on: May 21, 2011, 10:17:05 PM »
Until 5:45pm today, this tree was on State St just north of Passaic. All the branches and its top half had just been removed. It was sawed through at its base a minute before I took this picture and is shown being lifted off its stump.

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but aren't trees that are between the sidewalk and the street the property and responsibility of the city? If so, does the city bring in someone else to do this type of work?

I'm just wondering if this was a legal removal.

Hackensack Discussion / Hackensack approves red-light cameras

The Record

HACKENSACK — Red-light cameras will be coming to the city.

The City Council this week voted to enter into a contract with RedFlex Traffic Systems Inc. of Phoenix to install and monitor the cameras. The contract is still being drafted, said City Attorney Joseph Zisa.

The purpose of the cameras is improving public safety and reducing the number of motorists who go through red lights, the resolution states.

City Manager Stephen Lo Iacono said officials have not decided which intersections will receive cameras, and the city still needs approval from the state. He said in the end there probably will be about five installed around the city. He said it will take several months for intersections to be chosen and the cameras placed.

Lo Iacono said the cost of the installation and monitoring will be covered by fines received from summonses generated by the cameras. He said the company may get a portion of the fines collected.

City officials said two requests for qualifications were received, and that the council deliberated on the issue for several months before deciding on a company.

"It's been a long and painful process and I just want to see it come to a conclusion so that we can move ahead," Lo Iacono said.

How did you...get a picture like that...938 miles from Hackensack N.J. to Cape Canaveral Fla...

Don't forget the curvature of the Earth!

The image is more interesting without the story, but since you asked, you can get the answer on my site in the third from last picture in the Hackensack listing.

Mechanical, wet, wet, old, and reversed.

The last one was from a series of ONE picture I took from my car yesterday while waiting for the light to turn green at Main and Anderson. For the hell of it, I reversed the colors to see what it looked like and liked it much better.

Hackensack Discussion / Busy/noisy morning on Union St
« on: May 19, 2011, 06:06:11 PM »
It started with a jackhammer (1) and ended with a wood chipper (2). In between, dirt was dug (3), dumped (4), and double-paved (5), leaving more scars for cars to traverse (6) on what is now just an ugly, ugly intersection with Passaic St.

Today's asphalt, however, had a new flavor - shredded cellulose - as a neighbor had a tree removed (7-9) in the same camera frame as the road work.

Even the road guys stopped to watch (10)..............or were they smiling for the camera?

A current post about George Stimmel prompted a search on this site for Stimmel images.

After going here - http://www.hackensacknow.org/index.php/topic,1028 - I came across the below image about which the Editor said, "My guess is that it is the Court Street Bridge under construction."

Whether it is or isn't, it kinda reminds me of a Court St Bridge shot I took last week (second image).
