Hackensack Discussion / Halloween Decorations on Clinton Place
« on: November 01, 2008, 01:15:04 AM »
I went to Clinton Place on Thursday afternoon and took these pictures with my cellphone:

These are not real people! Streams of reddish-brown something were continuously coming from those containers:

(It was a Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory scene, in case you were wondering about that something)

Hackensack History / Hackensack - A City in "Motion"

Mom strikes again!

I wonder if this June 1975 image that she took from a car on Route 4 indicates exactly what type of motion the city was engaged in.  ;)

Hackensack History / The 1962 Wally Schirra Main St Parade
« on: October 30, 2008, 01:40:09 AM »
On October 15, 1962, Original 7 Mercury astronaut Wally Schirra of Oradell (born in Hackensack Hospital) was given a parade on Main St, Hackensack. I just found these pictures taken by my mother, from whom I seem to have inherited the photo gene.

Mom appears to have been running after Wally all over Main St, from David Burr to Womrath's and...............Vic Tanny's?

(maybe that's where the Riviera girls stayed in shape)

Hackensack Discussion / Coast Automotive

Before it moved to S. State St, it was on Main St across from the court house. Around the corner a few doors up on Essex St was the best car wash around, but I don't remember its name.

Anybody know it (or even remember it)?

Hackensack Discussion / Anybody remember this car?

"Prix-fection" - a jacked-up, customized 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix - was my baby and was ALWAYS cruising up and down Main St. This was taken in the Fairmount Diner parking lot in the summer of 1968.

Hackensack Discussion / Hackensack/YouTube

Go to YouTube and enter "Hackensack". There are over 700 videos. There's a lot of Fountains of Wayne and School of Rock to wade through, but you can find some interesting nuggets, such as a boat rescue during the flood on North Main (with a laughing commentator), the dancing guy on Anderson & River, fires and the HFD, Pascack Valley Line trains, high school stuff, the Main St Festival, etc.

Hackensack Discussion / The Hunger Site
« on: November 22, 2007, 12:51:49 AM »
Each year on Thanksgiving, I post this request at the various groups/lists/forums I belong to.

For the last 6 or 7 years, the first site I visit each day is http://hungersite.com/. I hope you will too, if you don't already.

Just click on the "Click Here For Free" button once a day and you donate food. That's it - there's nothing else you have to do and no one will ever contact you. It takes two seconds.

If it was a hassle, I wouldn't bother. This is the easiest and laziest way I've ever found to do some good for those who need it.

Thanks.

It's written for the younger reader, but adults will find it interesting too............well, at least I did. It's a good deal for a buck (current price).
