there was also a shop that sold live chickens.


That market was on New Street, between East Kansas St and Broadway. I lived on New Street for a few years in the late 80's/early 90's. The chicken market was closed down by then, but the building stood for years.

wow, great pic of Packards!  does anyone remember when Main St became a one way? In the pic with McCrory's it had the traffic moving south. And when did McCrory's become Woolworths?

I found that article by googling the name of the church and Hackensack, the first thing that popped up was that article...i haven't been down that block for many years so i guess I was mistaken on the demolition, but I do remember in the late 80's a friend of mine and I trying to peek in one of the windows and it having some odd looking statues I could not identify.
Sorry Chief but I do not know anything about the faith, but it does sound interesting.

When i was a kid I heard that this place was a Satanic church...according to this article it seems to be some sort of Polish/Slavic church. I know now the church was demolished and condos were built, but does anyone remember anything specific about this place?

Last summer i visited the "new" Record King on Main St, across the street from where he used to be next to the Oritani. I hadn't been in the old store since the late 70's (i bought english imports and the Ace Frehley solo album in 1978) and was never in the new store until last August. I was glad to see the original owner Craig still in the store too.
If you're into vinyl still like i am, check him out...anyone here been in either the old or new store?

Oh yes, Louie and Gina...Louie and my dad were good friends from the time we moved there till my dad passed away. My dad and a whole crew of guys used to hang out there on saturday afternoons, eat sandwiches in the back, watch sports, etc.
They were great people...I didn't realize that Tessie was his mom, that was before my time.

Does anyone know when they made this little street off of Jackson Ave? It's a small cul-de-sac not too far from the start of Jackson from Hudson (close to Frederick St i think) . I belive it was sometime in the 80's. And what was there before the street?
